Jackies walk – Sunday 9th September

As we drove over to Castleton for the start of the walk it was quite atmospheric – misty clouds over the landscape, but as we came down the pass into the village we were greeted by warm sunshine. Seven of us met in the Car Park at the Tourist information centre and set off to Hope along the river. This was a nice gentle walk, no climbing to do, in fact the most taxing part of the walk was trying to cross the road at Hope which was very busy. We returned to Castleton along the other side of the valley and after such a strenuous day we felt that we needed a rest in the Tea Shop. As Vince & Joan had "hired" Ben ( a dog) for the day we sat in the garden at the back of the tea shop and we all enjoyed an assortment of drinks and cakes. Sue & Geoff couldn’t linger too long as they had an important mission to undertake in IKEA but you will be pleased to know that we managed to buy what we wanted AND we managed to find our way out – we noticed a string dispenser in the car park so it was a simple matter to unravel it as we went around the store and then use it to retrace our steps afterwards!!
