Jack’s walk to Hilbre Island

On a glorious sunny day, 15 of us set off from Thurstaston Visitors Centre in the Wirral Country Park.
We walked for two miles along the Wirral Way before climbing Caldy Hill to get magnificent views of the Dee Estuary and North Wales. Then we descended to the slipway at West Kirby where we met up with Ann and Eric, two of our newer members. We then walked the two miles across the sands to Hilbre Island spending a leisurely  hour spotting seals and a large variety of sea birds. On our return  from the island we walked round the marine lake and back to Thurstaston via the Wirral Way and in some cases the beach. Afterwards most of us retired to a local hostelry for a well earned drink in the beer garden.
